Summer Heat

July 23, 2009 · 2 Comments

Today’s weather is perfect. It is a little above 80 degrees. I am enjoying it. There is an upcoming problem though… that would be the next week. Temperatures are supposed to be near 100 this weekend and pretty much all next week. That is hot. To make matters worse, my oldest has a soccer tournament this weekend, so we’ll be sitting in the sun most of the day. That is going to be rough.

So I have been wondering a lot lately about the “afterlife”. What is in store for us? Generally speaking, I believe we die, go to Heaven (hopefully) or Hell (please not). That said though, I tend to believe there are ghosts and I do believe I save seen some. I will save those stories for another time. So that leads me to believe there is a between state. Where you haven’t ascended to Heaven nor have you been banished to Hell. I have also heard stories and watched movies about people believe they have lived and can recall their past lives. I don’t really believe that. While I believe that we may be given an opportunity to come back to Earth to live another life, if we wind up in Heaven, I find the nonsense about past life recall…. well nonsense. If you believe in God, than you believe God is powerful enough to make that memory one that cannot be recovered.

While I would like to think death is like a skinemax movie (I can roam the Earth, drinking beer, hanging out with my friends and watching girls undress) I am guessing it is not like that at all. I have a hard time imagining what it will be like. Part of me believes that I will become this mass of light and energy, then the Catholic in me kicks in and I believe I will ascend to Heaven in my bodily form to live in bliss for eternity. I like that idea a lot. I don’t know if I would want to return to Earth. The endless possibilities of returning to a worse life are enough to think I will stay right where I am. I have lived a good life so far. I have a loving family, I never really wanted for much in my childhood. I wasn’t rich by any means, but my parents always worked hard to provide for us. I have a lot of complaints, but in terms of the life I was given and the family and friends I have, I have been truly blessed.

Now, if I cannot go to Heaven, I will take option 2, hanging out with my friends, drinking beer and watching naked ladies. Hopefully I have a nice pair of kicks.

Yummy Beer

July 18, 2009 · 2 Comments

Earlier this week, I finally got a full sized fridge for my garage. Yes, man sized beer fridge. That’s my first thought. I filled it with the basics, Corona and Bud Light. Now it is time for the cooler beers. I have started with one of my favorites, Rogue Brewery’s Morimoto Soba Ale. If you have not had it before, give it a try. A great beer from a great brewer. I also added some Murphy’s draught and Bass Pale Ale. Right now I am popping open my Bass ale. I plan on buing a few of these pricier beers a week so I can have some great beer to go with the cheap stuff.

The other day I discovered a great song by an underground rapper named Murs. One of my favorite groups growing up was Digital Underground. You would probably know them by “The Humpty Dance”. Anyway, I share that song with you now. I have downloaded it to my iPod already and have been listening to it a lot. It is entitled “Risky Business” and the video is based on the movie.

Tree

I was asked by my brother in law today whether I thought the state of California should legalize marijuana. The answer to that is a resounding yes. Now, I have never been one to smoke alot of weed in my life. Handful of times, but to me, it was just a waste of money. For the amount of 1 dime bag, I could get roughly 100 40ozers of Old English 800. Easy choice. Old English made me stupid drunk, especially after the second bottle. Weed, well I was always disappointed by the effect.

As for the debate on legalization… California is in SERIOUS need of money. They estimate $1.5 Billion in marijuana tax revenue. That would be a great help. Also, there are all the new jobs to consider, along with emptying jail cells of marijuana dealers and making room for rapists. You would also have the added benefit of lessening the # of illegals crossing the border to deal. If it’s legal, why import? People are worried that all these new smokers will pop up. Wake up! Half the population is already smoking it. I don’t think legalizing it would cause anyone new to smoke it that hasn’t already tried it. I think your once every 5 year user will still use once every 5 years. Your hardcore smoker will smoke just as much.

I think it is time we stop acting like marijuana is the worst thing on the planet. Alcohol kills many more people each year and you can buy that pretty much anywhere. I know plenty of highly educated, powerful people that smoke it. You would never know it. Your friends, your family, your coworkers… they probably smoke or have tried it. Lighten up and take some financial burdens away. This is money that could be put to good use and it’s going up in smoke now.
