Every morning I wake up, brush my teeth, shave and head out to work. Each day I get to work and I wonder what will this new day bring that will just piss me off. Now, I really try not to be negative. I do. I do! I know that people think I see the glass as half empty. That is true. It’s not that I cannot see the water in the glass, I just want the glass to be full. I appreciate the half glas of water I have, but I don’t see what is wrong with wanting a fuller glass.
This brings me to my job. I am very happy to have a job. I work really hard for the company that employs me. I have looked the other way as people treated me and thers absolutely miserably, but went unscathed because “sales people bring in money”. I always say “they can’t sell anything if I don’t keep their computers and servers running”. Which is true. Whether or not you realize it, you IT staff in your organization is what keeps things ticking. You need to make a sale? You want to get reimbursed for expenses? You want to develop software? You want a paycheck? Well all these things depend upon your IT department. Without the computers you use and the servers you use, not only would you not be able to do your jobs, your companies would not be able to cut your paychecks. Remember that the next time you are asked by your Help Desk to look under your desk and tell them your port #. “That’s your job” really isn’t an appropriate answer to give someone trying to help you. In fact, when you say things like this, it just tells us that you don’t really want help at all.
On another topic…. NBA. What are the Blazers thinking? Offer Brandon Roy the max deal. Quit screwing around with this 4 year BS and give him the contract he has earned. Aldridge deserves pertty close to the max as well. Get it done now. If you let them become restricted free agents at the end of the year, there is a very good chance that you will lose one if not both. Yes, you have the option to match any offer, but disrespecting your top players is not how you bring in top free agents. Kevin Pritchard, I am beggin you… please….. get it done.
This has been an interesting week. So far, thanks to Facebook, I have reconnected with 3 old friends. The first, I worked with about 13 years ago. She was a really good friend and I am happy we are back in touch again. In chatting with her and seeing if I knew any of her friends, I connected with a friend I had when I was like 9 years old and hadn’t seen in 25 years maybe. Then, in talking with her about our old neighborhood and such, I decided to look up my childhood best friend and VOILA, there he was. I’ve been playing catchup with him now. Sort of a trifecta of sorts. The problem of course is that they all want me to come up and visit, but, my wife is less keen on the idea. She doesn’t quite understand why I am so excited about reconnecting with these people. For me, it’s great because we share so many memories and memories of being kids together. I think that’s one of the coolest things. These were the people that I spray painted dogs with!
Today I had to go back to the Dr again. I have had a sinus infection for about 4 weeks now and the antibiotics I was given did not work. Later I need to pick up my “stronger” antibiotics. Please say a prayer for me as I will probably catch colds each week for the next year and the sinus infection will probably come back again.
So, in honor of my friends returning, I present you with the following…
Today I have mixed emotions over the Olympic Games coming to an end. Coverage out on my side of the coast just started up and I am watching volleyball. Of course I already know the outcome, but nothing much better is on right now. I enjoyed watching the Olympics on TV, but WHY could they not broadcast live on the West Coast? Start coverage at 5PM when it is broadcast on the East Coast. That would have allowed most of us to stay up and watch more of the games taking place. That would have meant better ratings as well. Right now, I am just wanting them to end. I pretty much knew the outcome of all the matches I was interested in before they were on out here anyway.
I hope the finale is as good as the opening, which in my opinion was just awesome.
Anyway, last night I decided to install Microsoft Silverlight 2.0. When it was done, my IE crashed. I brought it back up, but apparently it did not install, so once again I installed, once again IE crashed. I went to my control panel and error city. Apparently, my netsetup.cpl and firewall.cpl have become corrupted to the point that a system restore and a file restore from my workstation could not correct it. The laptop works for the most part, but this morning, I had to reboot several times as some .bat file in my temp kept crashing out. Also, my firewall was going apeshit. Oh, also some of my iTunes files became corrupted and they no longer play. When I treid backing up my files so I can rebuild Monday, several were failing a cyclic redundancy check. Nice. Thanks Microsoft for killing my music, thanks Apple for not allowing me to download the files that I paid for more than once. I really have to wonder why Silverlight would touch my netsetup, firewall and audio files. In fact it scares a bit.
Congratulations to the Chinese (even if you trotted out underage gymnasts) for winning the most gold medals, but I am proud that we won the most medals overall. So, I proudly present the following video from one of the greatest rock vocalists ever.
